A few weeks ago, I took a quick road trip up to see The Dairy Daughter, AKA Amy, on her beautiful farm. After chatting through Instagram’s DM’s for a few months, I suggested that we get together to create some imagery for a project that Amy has been working on.
The sun was shining as I pulled up to the farm. I was just getting my phone out to call Amy when a cow walked straight up to the yard gate. I knew that I had arrived at my destination.
Amy took me straight into their beautifully renovated kitchen. If you have been following Amy over on the gram, you will have seen all the stages of the renovation. I can confirm, it is more beautiful in public. The underfloor heating, the blue colour scheme and the gold hexagonal tiles had me slightly swooning. But, I wasn’ there to photograph her kitchen, I was there to photograph Amy.
We quickly headed out onto the farm for a tour. The farm has been in Amy’s family for 5 generations now, so there is little that Amy does not know about the area. I was eager to meet the cows on the farm and they did not disappoint. The girls were having their lunch when we were there. The welfare of these animals is something I was interested to learn more about, and I can happily say that these cows are treated like royalty.
Amy showed me all of the fields, which is where we got our first few snaps. We took one of the dogs, Ada, out with us. I focussed on getting some general view shots of Amy in the countryside, these are images that can have multiple uses.
As Amy showed me around the farm, we kept stopping for shots here and there, until I knew that we had enough portraits of Amy. Once the portraits had been taken, I started to build up the narrative of the image by photographing the surroundings. I especially focussed on including parts of the farm and the cows. This is good content for Amy to post on her social media channels in the future.
